About Hackathon

Hackathon is being organised by Indian Road Safety Campaign and Livemedia in association with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It aims to utilise the technical skills of students to improve the road safety scenario in India. Let's code for a safer India and experience the unexpected learning and fun. Win a lot, Learn a lot.

What is Our Goal?

The aim of this hackathon is to develop an app or web based solution to a given road-safety problem involving the best minds of premier institutes of the country.

Themes for Projects

  • Driver Behaviour Recognition and Improvement:

    The participants can develop webapps or mobile apps that can measure various facets of a driver's driving habits and notify him/her of the same.

  • Identifying and Notifying Driving Distractions:

    Driver distractions like mobile phone usage, loud music, etc. may be detected and presented to the driver in an innovative way as well.

  • Detecting Fraudulent Drivers:

    Any technical solution that can be used to check whether or not a person driving a vehicle is eligible.

Note: These are only the starter points for the projects and we expect the students to come up with their own innovative ideas surrounding solutions to road safety related problems.

16th Feb'18

Inauguration and Lecture Session

Kickstart of event from lecture cum workshop session. The hackathon shall start from the night of 16th Feb.

17th Feb'18

Bootcamp and Doubt Windows

Experts shall be present to guide the participants on 17th Feb during three windows: 12-2, 4-6 and 9-11 pm.

18th Feb'18

Results and Prize Distribution

The bootcamp shall culminate at 11 am 18th Feb, followed by prize ditribution at 3pm.

Registration Instructions

  1. There is no registration cost for the hackathon.
  2. Register your team here.
  3. A confirmation mail shall be sent to the registered mail.
  4. Follow the link given in the mail to reach the team login portal.
  5. Each team is supposed to complete its profile in the team portal and fill up the abstract of their project in about 50-100 words.
  6. It is compulsory to have atleast a basic abstract submitted by 16th afternoon.
  7. However, the abstract can be changed until the submission of the project.


  1. Inaugration and Lecture Sessions

    February 16th, 2018

    Kick start of hackathon will be from the lecture cum workshop session by Livemedia on "Role of Technology in Road Safety". Aim of the event will be to aware the youth that their technicak skills can play a huge role and will boost them up.

  2. Submissions of Ideas Accepted and beginning of Bootcamp

    February 16th, 2018

    After the hackathon, the students shall have to submit their ideas in the form of a proposal. In the meantime, the students can discuss their ideas with the speakers.
    This will be followed by the beginning of the hackathon from the night of 16th.

  3. Window for Doubts

    Febraury 17th, 2018

    During the hackathon, the participants shall be given the window to ask doubts from experts and to overcome difficulties coming in the way of their projects.
    Timings for doubt windows: 12-2 pm, 4-6 pm, 9-11 pm

  4. End of Bootcamp

    February 18th, 2018

    The bootcamp shall end at 11 am on 18th Feb. The submission format shall be described later.

  5. Bootcamp Results and Prize Distribution

    February 18th, 2018

    Top 10 projects shall be awarded. Of these, five shall proceed on to the next round.

  6. Phase 2

    Till Mid March

    The selected teams shall be workinig under the guidance of an expert for about a month to improve their project.

  7. Phase 3

    April 20, 2018

    All five teams shall be presenting their projects at a mega event where eminent personalities shall be invited.

The event is divided into 3 round. It is compulsory for each team to attend a session on the “Role of Technology in Road-Safety” which will be held between 5-7:00 pm in LHC, IIT Delhi.Each team need to submit a write up containing the problem and idea of solution.These problems will lie in 3 domains- driver behaviour, road conditions and fraud detection.The participating teams need to submit their solution(in Max 100 words) of any of the problem before 8:00 pm, 16th Feb’18

Round 1

  • This will be a 36 hr competition in which the team are required to develop a prototype of an app/web based solution of the problem that they have chosen.
  • Top 50 teams from the registered will be eligible for this.
  • A set of experts will be available, from which the teams can take help both in technical and road-safety aspects.
  • There will be a training session on 17th of 2 hour each from 12:00pm - 6:00pm , each team needs to attend one of these session. The teams need to submit their code along with a power-point presentation of the idea before 18th Feb’18 11am.
  • Top 10 teams will be awarded and selected for round 2.

Round 2

  • Each team will be allotted a mentor and they will have to develop their model over a span of 1 month.
  • 5 teams will be selected in this round.

Round 3

  • The work of the selected teams will be presented to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway(MoRTH).
  • The team will continue to work on their project for another 1 months under the surveillance of LiveMedia.
  • The selected idea will be taken forward as a startup by Live Media.

  • Prizes worth a total of 2.5 lakhs.
  • Project of the winner will be funded and taken forward as a startup.
  • Internship opportunities by Bosch, Ola, LiveMedia to all the winners.
  • Certificates and merchandise will be provided to all the participants.
  • Top 5 teams will be interviewed by live media and will be featured in 6 lakhs screen across India.
  • Winners of round 1 will get a chance to present their work in Kaizen - Annual Social Fest of IIT Delhi.


  • There is no registration fee for the event.
  • Team of maximum 3 members are allowed to register.
  • It is compulsory to attend the opening event “Role of Technology in Road Safety” and the training session in the training slots.
  • Refreshments will be provided to the participants during the competition.
  • Further details will be mailed to the registered teams.

Terms and Conditions

  • You are expected to come up with new and innovative ideas, any idea that has been copied from somewhere will be disqualified
  • You should not infringe any third party's intellectual property or privacy.
  • You should not in any other way violate Indian laws
  • The decisions made by the organisers and the jury regarding the prize money and participation are final and binding on the participants.
  • IPRs if any Product/Technology developed during the Hackathon or based further work done on the outcomes of the Hackathon would always rest with and belong to LiveMedia. IRSC and SOLVE would however have the right to use the products as developed during the Hackathon.
