About Us

Indian Road Safety Campaign is the road safety initiative of Solve, an organisation, set up by the students and alumni of IIT Delhi. It started as a small project 3. 5 years ago at IIT Delhi and since then has grown to be a national level organisation working across 50 cities with help of 500+ colleges and 1700+ volunteers across awareness, technical innovation, law, policy, medical and other sectors in close association with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Delhi Traffic Police, United Nations, WHO, Supreme Court etc. to change the scenario of road safety in India. It believes in power of youth, technology and Collaboration to achieve Vision Zero.

PHOTOGRAPHY
One of the most practical aspect of life and education system is that people may not learn much from the theoretical knowledge as compared to that of what he learns from watching and observing their environment and different issues. Hence, the same concept has been used by the Indian Road Safety Campaign to emphasize practical learning and capturing some glimpse of frozen moments which would depict the issue of Road safety. The competition will be acting as a medium which will be enabling the youth to understand the small small and varied situations which leads to the fatal road accidents.

Guidelines:-
What to be done:-
1. Participate individually.
2. You are required to showcase a photograph depicting the sensitive road safety issue along with the usage of a quote.
3. Only one photograph shall be uploaded in the Report.
4.The picture can be edited in order to highlight the major meaning of the photograph and to give it a professional look.
Marking Criteria:-
1. On the basis of Photographic Skills:

STREET PLAY
One of the main feature of humanity is helping the others, however in context of India, it is the society that frames, abides and create the environment for a particular culture or aspect and at the same time suppresses the decisions of an individual. This have a downward push due to the flaws and the gaps that are being present in the society and the state laws. In order to make the people start helping the accidental victims and further spreading the information of the type of services and prizes that the government is providing for helping the injured victims of road accidents the college teams will be required to conduct a street play..

Guidelines:-
What to be done:-

  1. Participate in a Team. Only the Team Leader is suppose to register.
  2. Street play should be the combination of both the humorous and sensitive parts of the life related to road safety.
  3. Street Play is required to be done in the crowded areas.
  4. The street play teams will be required to submit their script after the conduction of the event that has been used.
  5. Video recording of audience providing reviews who attended the Street Play.
  6. Full video recording is to be provided from the side of the teams.

CASE STUDY
In the social sciences and life sciences, a case study is a research method involving an up-close, in-depth, and detailed examination of a subject of study (the case), as well as its related contextual conditions. In today's scenario when critical analysis and idea developments are the most significant factors in determining what can actually bring a lot of difference whether an issue can be solved or not.Hence the case study competition has been included. The problem Statement is based upon Potholes: Apathy of Roads. Moreover, it is not just the theoretical analysis which comes into play. Ground level impact and implementation are other strong aspects which are required to be improvised. the teams are required to fulfill the gaps in the infrastructures in the nearby areas. .

Guidelines:-
What is to be done:
Participate in a Team. Only the Team Leader is suppose to register. The team strength can vary from 2 to 4 individuals.
PART A: CASE STUDY PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Teams are required to provide the brief analysis of the Problem Statement, Potholes: Apathy of Roads.
The problem statement and Analysis criteria can be found in the Dashboard once the Team is registered.

PART B: PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION OF ROAD SIGNS:
Changes that should be done:-

Placing of the road signs where they should be located but they are not present and checking the existing Road sign boards.
How to work in Practical Implementation
Phase 1:
Under phase 1 the teams are required to find out the areas which does/does not comprise of Road signs.
Further analyze the problem by checking a) the colour of road signs, b) presence of road signs, c) location of road signs and suggest he most feasible solution properly in the report.
Phase 2:
Under the phase 2 the college students are required to Implement the solutions that has been found in phase 1 by approaching the local governmental authorities or the administration.
Note:- Forwarding the pdf copy being signed by the authorities signifying that they will be working on the improvement of the same.

TECHNICAL IDEA
One of the major issue regarding the accidents in the context of the country like India is the negligence of the people while driving the vehicles or performing the other roles on the roads, the solution of the same can be further divided into 3 parts:-

  • Awaring and educating to the people - quite difficult since can be quite easy to evaluate on the basis of the previous years stats.
  • Making the laws and implementing the same - A long term solution since the system is based on Democracy.
  • Technical changes - The other thing is the technical aspect.
  • On all the above mentioned areas the technical part is something which will boost the speed up the impact we can create and will further help us to achieve our goal much faster as compared to the other terms.
What to be done:-
  1. Idea that has not been worked till now that can be on any technical domain
  2. Detailed analysis on how the same will work in order to achieve the goal of reduction of the road accidents in the country.
  3. Estimated financial requirement of the same solution that is required to be implemented.
  4. Note:- The best project that will be coming under the project will be financed by the indian road safety campaign in which the students will be required to work.

Hackathon
It aims to utilise the technical skills of students to improve the road safety scenario in India. Let's code for a safer India and experience the unexpected learning and fun. Win a lot, Learn a lot. WHAT IS OUR GOAL? The aim of this hackathon is to develop an app or web based solution to a given road-safety problem involving the best minds of premier institutes of the country.

THEMES FOR PROJECTS:-

  1. Driver Behaviour Recognition and Improvement:
  2. a) The participants can develop web apps or mobile apps that can measure various facets of a driver's driving habits and notify him/her of the same.
  3. Identifying and Notifying Driving Distractions:
  4. a) Driver distractions like mobile phone usage, loud music, etc. may be detected and presented to the driver in an innovative way as well.
  5. Detecting Fraudulent Drivers:
  6. a) Any technical solution that can be used to check whether or not a person driving a vehicle is eligible.

NOTE: THESE ARE MERE SUGGESTIONS. YOU CAN WORK ON ANY IDEA WHICH YOU WANT TO WORK UPON.

ROUNDS:
The event is divided into 3 rounds.

  1. Round 1(Till Mid Term Evaluation)
    • This will be a 10 days competition in which the team are required to develop a prototype of an app/web based solution of the problem that they have chosen.
    • Top 50 teams from the registered will be eligible for this.
    • A set of experts will be available after Round 1, from which the teams can take help both in technical and road-safety aspects.
  2. Round 2(After Mid Term Evaluation)
    • Each team will be allotted a mentor and they will have to develop their Project over a span of 12 days.
  3. Round 3 (Final Presentation)
  4. Top 3 teams will be selected on the basis of Round 1 and Round 2.

Practical Implementation
The role of the youth is not only concerned with spreading awareness about the road safety but also help the government to solve various issues which are a serious concern by stating the easy solutions for the same. The Indian Government is already overloaded with a large amount of work .Hence, the government could be helped by the youth by stating them simple solutions for the various big issues. The objective of the team is to state simple and feasible solutions to the most common problems concerned with road safety which can highly reduce the frequency of accidents. Under this activity, the teams are required to fulfill the gaps in the infrastructures in the nearby areas. The major focus of these activities is to fulfill the gaps of the infrastructure by developing a feasible solution to the same and getting it implemented by the governmental authorities.

Guidelines:-
The project can be done in 2 areas:-
1.In the radius of 1 Km around the college premises.
2. In the college campus. (if college campus is spread over a large area).
Changes that should be done:-
a) Placing of the road signs where they should be located but they are not present and checking the existing Road sign boards.
b) The lines on the speed breaker and zebra crossing, in order to make them distinguishable from the rest of the road, since it fades away with time. Here, they’ll have to persuade the maintenance authorities to look after it.
c) Filling up of the pot holes by approaching the authorities or Do some temporary arrangements to avoid accidents.

How to work in Practical Implementation:-
1. Phase 1 :-
Under phase 1 the teams are required to find out the various issues in the allotted area which is directly or indirectly leading to the Road Accidents. Then, surveys of stakeholders of the area must be taken to further analyze the problems and take possible suggestions of solutions from them. The most feasible solution has to be identified and drafted properly in the report.
1. Phase 2 :-
Under the phase 2 the college students are required to Implement the solutions that has been found in phase 1 by approaching the local governmental authorities or the administration.

WHAT IS TO BE DONE:-
A)Participate in a team. Only the Team leader is suppose to Register on behalf of the team.
B)Analyse all the 3 issues within your college dimensions. Take a survey from all the possible stakeholders. ( Phase 1)
C)Prepare a well-defined report that should be presentable to the local authorities also. (IRSC will approve a letter to support you to approach the local authorities like PwD, Traffic Police etc.)
D)Get the pdf copy signed by the authorities signifying that they will be working on the improvements.

Marking Criteria:-
1. On the Basis of Report Formation:
A) Report Formation.
B) Usage of Statistics, graphs (if any).
C) Survey Analysis.
D) Stakeholder Video clippings.
2. On the Basis of Implementation:
A) Extent of impact created.
Note: 80% of the evaluation depends upon the completion of implementation and impact.
